Born in Malaysia, he has worked extensively across the Middle East and Asia, building a strong reputation for regional insight, long-term customer relationships, and a collaborative approach to business. A passionate advocate for professional development, Nick is a board member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation and co-founder of the Future Turf Managers Initiative, a program dedicated to supporting the next generation of turf professionals. Through these roles, he actively promotes education, international collaboration, and the advancement of Turf Care standards across emerging and established markets.

Renowned professional with over 25 years of experience in golf professional supplies across the UAE and GCC region. Served as Founder & Commercial Director at Polyclean Turf Division and previously as General Manager at Desert Turfcare – Desert Group. Expertise encompasses setting up business units, commercialization, project management, value chain management, business strategy, and team leadership. No stranger to the education part of golf business, his educational contributions goes above and beyond. Ben’s experience in the middle East extends over 20 years as Sports Turf Manager- Desert Group. He specializes in the construction and maintenance of multiple sports turf surfaces including, football, rugby, golf, horse racing, and cricket. Overall, 25 years of international experience in the UK, USA, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and India working with both warm season and cool season grasses.

Ben’s managed some high-profile sporting events, including the FIFA Club World Cup (2009/10, 2017/18), FIFA U17 World Cup (2013), IRB Dubai International Rugby Sevens (every year since 2006), IRB Rugby Sevens World Cup (2009), Commonwealth Games India (2010), Gulf Cup Bahrain (2013), AFC Asian Cup UAE (2019), along with multiple local professional league club rugby/football including World Cup qualifiers.

Chris Gray

Head of Sustainable Golf & Agronomy for The R&A. Asia-Pacific

Chris Gray is The R&A Head of Sustainable Golf and Agronomy for Asia-Pacific, a position he has held since March 2020.

Gray heads up The R&A Sustainable Agronomy Service for Asia Pacific and the Middle East, which focuses on promoting sustainable agronomy best practice, along with providing championship agronomy support to the R&A’s championship events in the region, working closely with the R&A’s sustainable golf and agronomy teams at the Home of Golf in St Andrews.

Hailing from Australia, Gray has over 30 years of knowledge and experience having worked extensively as an agronomic consultant, golf course manager and golf course project manager in the Asia-Pacific, Central Asia and Middle East regions.

Prior to joining The R&A, Gray held the position of Director of Agronomy and Golf Redevelopment at The Singapore Island Country Club and has been an agronomic consultant on a number of European Tour, PGA Tour and LPGA tournaments in the region.

Chris is also the current President of the Asian Golf Industry Association.

Harry Wells

Golf Course Superintendent – Dubai Creek Golf

Harry Wells is the Golf Course Superintendent at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, overseeing one of the Middle East’s most prominent golf venues.

Originally from North London, Harry’s passion for greenkeeping was sparked early on by his father, a Course Manager. He began his career at 16 with a weekend job at Brocket Hall Golf Club, which led to full-time work and formal training, including NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Sports Turf Management.

At 21, Harry took a seasonal placement at Royal Sydney Golf Club in Australia, a formative experience that inspired him to pursue international opportunities. He later joined the Ohio State Program, gaining tournament and renovation experience at Liberty National in New Jersey and Los Angeles Country Club, where he was part of the team preparing for the 2023 U.S. Open.

In 2020, he moved to Dubai for an internship at Jumeirah Golf Estates, which quickly evolved into a permanent role as Assistant Superintendent. In 2023, he was promoted to his current position at Dubai Creek.

Harry brings global experience, a deep understanding of tournament-level standards, and a passion for sustainability and innovation in turf management.

Dr. Carmen Magro

Pure Insight USA

Dr. Carmen Magro, PhD, MBA, CGCS, is a seasoned expert with 30 years in the turfgrass industry. He began as a Golf Course Superintendent in the Mid-Atlantic U.S. and later led Penn State’s Golf Course Turfgrass Management program, turfgrass research and media relations worldwide. Trained by renowned professors, he specialized in turfgrass physiology, nutritional science and rootzone systems.

He became a pioneer in using sensor technology for turf management, innovating and spearheading the creation of the POGO TurfPro system. Wanting to further advance the science, he founded PURE Insight™, a global company focused on monitoring and improving turfgrass health, analyzing unique property conditions and offering advice, solutions and services to meet individual property needs.

In 2024, he earned his PhD from the University of Padua, advised by leading global turf experts. Carmen remains active worldwide, volunteering, educating, and occasionally performing music.
